Become a Board Member

As a board member of Haven House, you will play a vital part in guiding and strengthening our organization so that we can continue restoring hope and renewing lives in our community. You will help uphold our mission, contribute strategic insight, and serve as an ambassador for mental health awareness and support.

Key Responsibilities

Board members are expected to:

Governance & Strategy

  • Participate in monthly board meetings (10 meetings per year) held on the third Wednesday of each month.
  • Help set and advance Haven House’s strategic direction and organizational goals.
  • Ensure the organization maintains high standards of ethical conduct, financial stability, and compliance with legal obligations.

Advocacy & Ambassadorship

  • Act as an advocate for Haven House’s mission within your personal, professional, and civic networks.
  • Promote awareness of mental health and the services Haven House provides throughout the Lehigh Valley.

Support & Engagement

  • Serve on committees or task forces based on interests, skills, and organizational needs.
  • Support fundraising efforts and community engagement initiatives. While there is no required financial contribution, board members are encouraged to support the mission in ways that are meaningful to them — personally or through their business networks.

Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with fellow board members, staff leadership, and volunteers with respect and a shared commitment to service.

Time Commitment

  • Meetings: Attend approximately 10 board meetings annually (third Wednesday of most months).
  • Term Length: Each board appointment is a three-year term.
  • Term Limit: Board members may serve up to three consecutive terms (maximum 9 years).

Ideal Qualifications

While specific experience isn’t required, board members should:

  • Demonstrate passion for mental health advocacy and community impact.
  • Bring diverse perspectives, professional experience, or community connections.
  • Be willing to engage constructively in organizational discussions and decisions.
  • Uphold integrity and positive collaboration.
